Block chain applications in smart grids
This project combines the knowledge on (smart) grids in the Electric Power Engineering group with the knowledge on IT security in the Pervasive and Mobile Computing group.
This project combines the knowledge on (smart) grids in the Electric Power Engineering group with the knowledge on IT security in the Pervasive and Mobile Computing group. Many of the applications that are part of the smart grid, including real-time and balancing markets, require intensive communication between individual customers and components in the power grid. This makes both the electricity network and the customer vulnerable to attacks. In this project, we will study the use of secure communication tools as part of communication and market mechanisms within the smart grid. Specific emphasis will be placed on energy-efficient block-chain methods and smart charging of electric vehicles.
