Electrical infrastructure for electric aircrafts between the cities of Northern Sweden
During the project, an assessment will be made of what electrical infrastructure is needed to enable the use of aircraft powered by electric motors ("electric aircraft") to fly between the cities in northern Sweden and neighbouring areas in Norway and Finland.
The development of electric aircrafts creates new opportunities to connect those cities: with Sweden's electricity system increasingly based on renewable sources, the environmental impact of flying becomes considerably less; and developments for electric aircraft are moving towards smaller planes over smaller distances.
The project will create some realistic scenarios for air traffic between cities in Northern Sweden. Based on this, an estimation will be made of the need for charging of the aircraft, the need for additional electrical infrastructure at the airport, and the need for strengthening the electricity grid. Electric modes of ground transportation (electric buses in the first place) will be considered between the airport, cities and smaller communities nearby.
