Large-scaleproductionofbiocarbonas renewablefeedstock in fossil-freevaluechainswithinthe ironand steel industry
Background
- Replacing fossil coal with biocarbon in iron and steel industry can eliminate GHG emissions in the transition to a circular and bio-based economy.
- However, there is no technology for large-scale and cost-effective production of biocarbon yet.
Objectives
- To develop a solution in the form of a reactor concept that enables large-scale production of biochar in existing CHP plants.
- Investigation of biochar yield and its properties under different conditions in fluidized bed reactors.
- Development of a fuel conversion model to be used in the reactor models.
