Indigenous Rights and the Global Politics of Resource Extraction: The Case of Mining in Sápmi
The project aims to analyze the increasingly complicated natural resource extraction on indigenous traditional lands.
The focus is on two overarching questions: 1) How should we understand the focus of international law and the requirement to recognise indigenous peoples' rights to land and natural resources in the countries where indigenous groups live? 2) With the increased focus on indigenous rights, how does this change the relationship between and negotiations with indigenous peoples, countries and companies? The project is interdisciplinary and uses several qualitative methods.
