Virtual Reality (VR) as a demonstrator and learning platform for sustainable, modern and innovative mining
Within the framework of the project, we will reach all target groups by providing our VR environments as permanent parts of Teknikens Hus and Tekniska Museets mining exhibitions and in LTU's VR-Lab. The project will also be positive to present ongoing work in case invitations to conferences and similar events arise, and work actively to be able to show the work to a handful of extra urgent ones. VR environments are expected to be used as an important, modern and much appreciated tool for getting the general public, especially children and young people interested in the mining industry and increasing both their understanding of it and their knowledge of it.
Dissemination of knowledge
At all previous demonstration occasions, we have seen that many of those who test our VR environments are interested in learning more about how work in mines works and why mines are needed. This applies to both the general public and students. Fixed installations of the VR environment, such as Science Center (SC) such as Teknikens Hus and Tekniska Museet, are expected to be able to act as "door openers" for further conversations. with the general public as well as children and young people. These types of establishments allow for a great spread of VR environments as these Science Centers have many visitors. The visits often take place as part of school activities, which makes it possible, in an inclusive way, for target groups that are under-represented in the mining industry to take part in the VR environments. In the long term, we believe that our project can contribute to strengthening the Swedish mining industry, of the industry.
