Can morphological training improve reading fluency? An intervention study for children with reading difficulties and children with typical reading ability.
In this project, we will investigate how training morphological awareness affects reading development in 8-9 year old children.
Current methods of teaching reading aim to improve children's ability to read by sounding out letters. These methods are effective in the very early stages of reading development, but they do not help children develop rapid and fluent reading. For individuals with reading difficulties, problems with reading fluency often persist into adulthood. Knowledge on how to improve reading fluency is currently lacking.
In this project we will investigate how training morphological awareness affects reading development in children aged 8-9 years. The main aim is to study how morphological training affects fluent reading, but we will also study the effects on word reading and reading comprehension. Children with reading difficulties and children with typical reading development will participate in the project and we will investigate the effects of the training in the different groups.
