VA-NET - Vibration-based Assessment of Pipe Networks
We are pleased to announce that Stormwater&Sewers' joint research application, "Vibration-based Assessment of Municipal Pipe Networks for IoT-enabled Real-time Monitoring and Machine Learning-aided Maintenance Planning (VA-NET)," has been granted funding by Smart Built Environment - FORMAS. The total project budget is 7.8 million SEK, while Formas finances 3.8 million SEK.
The overall goal of this project is to investigate the potential of using vibration and acoustic measurements to investigate the status of sewer networks and, by extension, to develop a method that continuously assesses the status of the pipes with real-time measurements and machine learning algorithms.
Expected results from the project will support an evidence-based approach for the proactive, real-time continuous monitoring and maintenance planning of municipal pipe networks enabled and aided through digitalisation. Results will also aid early detection of problems, digitally enabling spatial maintenance planning, better-informed decision-making and improved asset management.
The project duration is 4 years and is officially scheduled to commence on December 1, 2023. Participating partners include Boden Municipality, Luleå Miljöresurs (Lumire), Luleå University of Technology, MittSverige Vatten & Avfall AB, Tekniska verken i Linköping AB.
