Small-scale electricity producers in cities
The Sustainable Development Goals call for greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced. Cities are the biggest polluters and must transform their energy systems. Researchers at Luleå University of Technology will now investigate how to support so-called 'prosumers', people who both produce and consume energy.
A neighborhood in Luleå, Porsön with the university area, will be a test bed in the study to find the best ways to support prosumers. Through workshops with the neighborhood's residents and those working in the area, new ways of thinking about design and infrastructure will take shape.
- We will try to find new exciting ways to imagine and design the district, says Agatino Rizzo and Kristina Ek, both Associate Professor at Luleå University of Technology.
The Solar Urban Districts project will focus on solar energy and cities
- "Drawing on previous research in urban design, building integration and energy economics, we argue that local neighborhoods are the most appropriate level to test and evaluate a design-driven democratic model that can be used to integrate renewable electricity generation in urban environments", says Agatino Rizzo.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by the United Nations and ratified by Member States, call for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
