Choice of supply voltage for electrified roads
Electrified roads are a way to solve the need for fossil-free transport. For large and heavy vehicles, a catenary approach has already shown its feasibility in the past and it forms and attractive alternative that is expected to be realizable in the near future.
Other ways to supply electrified roads are through induction and through contact rails in the road. This project focuses on catenary-fed electrified roads, for buses and trucks.
An independent study without any pre-assumptions will be conducted towards the choice of supply voltage for electrified roads at the interface between the vehicle pantograph and the power grid. Technical and economic benefits of various supply voltages will be studied from a system perspective.
