Higher music education and consciousness research
The project aims to test prevailing views on higher music education in relation to current consciousness research.
The object of the research is, in a broad sense, Learning Communities (LC), starting with the “Case” BoomTown Music Education and then extending to other areas where LC is central, such as music teacher education, but also to hitherto unexplored contexts. Three focus areas constitute the project.
- Co-creating and Collaborative learning. Exploring the concepts that form the basis of BTME but which were more or less implicit during its creation and implemented directly in practice. The focus is on investigating and evaluating the conditions for different forms of musical collaboration and co-creation within student groups, teacher groups and whole contexts (learning communities).
- Interdisciplinary perspectives and cutting-edge research. New ontologies and concepts are explored and highlighted in research that emphasises collaboration: Interconnectedness, resonance, multidimensional and collective consciousness etcetera.
- We need new language, new concepts and new narratives to think creatively in a global world and to explore the conditions and challenges for genuine co-creation both within institutions and in new and unfamiliar contexts. Innovative and transnational research and education environments can lead the way and tell us new stories. A creative, research-linked and challenging music teacher education community can train music teachers who shape the new paradigm in both national and international learning environments.
The overall approach is to ask new questions rooted in the emerging paradigm and explore the interfaces between music education and the emerging science of consciousness. At this intersection, methods and interpretation models can be developed that can offer a holistic perspective on music as both an experience and a professional practice. Holistic here means a holistic view of the human being as an experiencing, present and ever-growing co-creator in an intelligent and conscious world.
