About the research subject Nursing
At Luleå University of Technology, nursing research focuses on four key areas: suffering from acute illness and injury, older people's life and health, recovery in case of mental illness, and promoting health through life.
The nursing subject contributes to addressing challenges arising from the green societal transition and the new industrialization in northern Sweden. These challenges are directly linked to issues of competence supply and learning within healthcare, while also raising ethical and sustainability concerns related to healthcare in a broader perspective. Within the nursing subject, ongoing research explores how new technology and nature-based interventions can promote health and well-being. Notable external funders include organizations such as Forte, Interreg Nord, and the Kamprad Family Foundation.
Nursing research is closely intertwined with the educational programs for nurses, radiology nurses, and specialized nurses. The research questions we tackle are significant for the education we provide, and vice versa. At an advanced level, students are encouraged to participate in ongoing research projects. Additionally, we conduct research on learning and health concerning students and the nursing profession. The subject also offers doctoral education. Nursing doctoral students are part of the broader academic environment, the Academy of Health, and participate in various research schools.
Through its research efforts, the nursing subject generates new knowledge aimed at ensuring that individuals facing or at risk of ill health receive the best possible care and nurturing based on their unique needs and resources.
