AI Laboratory – AI Factory
AI Factory is a concept aimed at gathering research projects in the field of Artificial Intelligence for the industry. In collaboration with the industry, future solutions are being developed.
At AI Factory, projects are currently underway in four segments with established industry partners: railway, mining, construction, and aviation. Read more about each area for further information.
AI Factory Railway

The ongoing digitization and implementation of AI technology within the railway sector depend on accessibility and availability of data and algorithms. AIFR provides a platform for the sharing of data and models.
The project is partially funded by Vinnova.
AI Factory Mining

The ongoing digitization and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) within the mining industry are highly dependent on the accessibility and availability of data for a geographically distributed system. AI Factory for Mining (AIF/M) aims to facilitate this by providing a platform for data and model sharing.
The research methodology applied in the project has primarily been based on literature reviews, structured and semi-structured interviews, workshops, and demonstrator development. To identify needs related to individual usage, an As-Is/To-Be analysis has been conducted.
AI Factory Construction

Digital transformation in societal construction is crucial for the entire construction sector. The ambition of the AIF/C project is to provide the Swedish construction industry with an advantage in utilizing AI.
The construction process is information-intensive and characterized by "many-to-many" relationships in the exchange of data among stakeholders. Managing and processing information to transform it into practical knowledge is a key success factor for a construction project. Having the right knowledge and information at any given time provides the basis for decision-making that enhances predictability, reduces risks, and contributes to increased productivity and efficiency in the construction process – specifically in the production phase of the construction process.Limited use and insufficient integration of digital technology are among the biggest challenges for the development and implementation of AI.
- Detailed mapping and description of site management's needs for data and information for fact-based decision-making.
- Develop and establish a common distributed cloud/edge-based platform for the development, verification, and demonstration of AI models.
- Integrate relevant internal and external data sources into the project's cloud environment, containing facts to facilitate site management's decision-making process.
- Develop and implement AI algorithms in the project's cloud environment for data analysis and decision support for Site Management.
Therefore, the goal of AIF/C is to:
- This project focuses on the production phase where information management is crucial for making the right decisions at the right time, ensuring efficiency in the process and quality in the delivery. A construction site can be viewed as a temporary factory with a large number of available resources that need to be optimally utilized to ensure delivery, and where downtime can quickly result in significant losses.
