Stability of Tailings Dams: Focus on Numerical Modelling
To assess the stability of tailings dams during staged construction and the long term (i.e. 1000 years) using finite element method. The focus of the project is to:
(i) properly understand the mechanical behaviour of the tailings material,
(ii) check the suitability of available soil constitutive models for the tailings material,
(iii) perform numerical analyses of tailings dams with suitable constitutive models, and
(iv) formulate criteria for assessment of long term stability of tailings dams based on the results of the numerical analyses.
