New post-doc and PhD candidates joining Urban Water research group
Franz Kevin Geronimo began his work as a post-doctoral researcher at the Urban Water Research Group, Luleå University of Technology, in the beginning of March 2024. In his new position, he will be working in the FORMAS Blue Innovation project Integrated surface water and groundwater management, where he will assess and evaluate the effects of stormwater on groundwater quality. Franz earned both his M.Sc. and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Kongju National University, Republic of Korea, in 2013 and 2020, respectively, where his research focus was stormwater management through various low-impact development technologies and nature-based solutions.
Emmanuel Kassim Bangura joined the research group as a PhD candidate also in the beginning of March 2024. His research is focused on the effective management and planning of stormwater systems through investigation of novel field and model-based approaches geared towards the understanding of urban stormwater processes. His work will involve the application of various sensors used in stormwater networks and the use of models to simulate these systems. Emmanuel has a M.Sc. in Hydro Science and Engineering from TU Dresden in Germany where he investigated the influence of sewer network structures on the occurrence of combined sewer overflow (CSO) events for a sub-network in the city of Dresden for his thesis.
The second new PhD candidate to join the group in mid-March 2024 is Henriette Nishimwe. Her research focuses on stormwater quality data by investigating the influence of alternative approaches to sample collection, storage, and analysis. Her work aims at contributing to the optimization of stormwater quality data, facilitate analysis, and inform the strategies for the development of sustainable stormwater management. Henriette holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, focusing on spatial analysis in groundwater aquifers around Mount Meru, Tanzania. Before, she also worked on a drinking water project in Kigali, Rwanda, for three years.
Welcome all of you to the Urban Water Engineering group!
