ProWater: The use of industrial side products as secondary resources in wastewater treatment (2024-2027)
ProWater focuses on industrial by-products to be used for water treatment processes.
Project goal and approach
The project's main objectives are to deliver the knowledge overcome the obstacles limiting the recirculation and use of industrial side products as secondary resources in the wastewater treatment and water pollution control sectors. In ProWater we investigate the use of industrial by-products in different water treatment processes, including wastewater, stormwater and industrial effluent. ProWater also analyses the availability of organic and inorganic residual products, their properties, the need for treatment before use, as well as afterlife treatment and/or regeneration. Among other things, the project investigates regionally available apatite for use as a filter material in phosphorus removal from wastewater.
Project partners and funding
The project is coordinated by Oulu University. Project participants are Luleå University of Technology, LKAB, Kajaanin Ammattikorkeakoulu Oy (KAMK), Kemin Digipolis Oy and SLU. The project activities are carried out in collaboration between partners in Sweden and Finland.
The project is funded by LKAB and Interreg Aurora.
