RECO-Resource efficient coordinated maintenance&renewal of streets, water and sewer pipes 2019-2023
In this project we work with coordiated maintenance and renewal of streets and pipes for water supply and sewage
The aim is to develop decision support and planning methods that make coordinated maintenance and rehabilitation of different infrastructure more efficient, based on economic, environmental and social aspects. The project will contribute to facilitate to prioritize activities related to renewal of infrastructure assets to optimize the use the technical lifespan of streets and pipes for drinking water and sewage.
Expected effects from this project are increased knowledge about the status and the aging of different infrastructure assets, which can support decisions that can lead to more efficient maintenance and renewal of streets and pipes. Work related to maintenance and renewal of infrastructure in urban areas can be planned and coordinated more structured and be more resource efficient than in the present situation. This can contribute to more effective use of economic resources and more sustainable development of the infrastructure in urban areas.
The project is divided into 3 work packages (WPs). In WP1, statistically cohorts will be developed which will describe the aging and survival function of different types of streets and pipes by doing a literature study, workshops and data collection. In WP2, coordination strategies for maintenance and renewal of streets and pipes will be developed based on criteria such as investments, traffic disturbances and use of resources by LCC and LCA tools. In WP3 decision support will be developed for coordinated maintenance and renewal and in WP3 the communication of results is managed as well.
This project is financed by InfraSweden2030, a strategic innovation programme funded by Vinnova, the Swedish energy agency and the Swedish research council Formas. Partners in the project are Luleå University of technology, Stockholm Vatten AB, MittSverige Vatten och Avfall AB, Luleå municipality, Bodens municipality samt Vatten och Avfallskompetens i Norr AB. The project will be carried out during the period 2019-2022.
