ALICE
Social, technical and environmental structures are important for sustainable development. Infrastructure of the society and buildings affects human behaviour and living conditions, for example by supplying us with protection from seasonal climatic stress, water, waste management and sanitation, energy including heat and lighting, equipment for living and leisure, communication and transport.
Sustainable built environments and structures shall not contribute to pollution which is ruining ecosystems. They should be designed to minimize the consumption of natural resources, both geographically (locally and globally) and over time (present and future generations). The technology must be socially acceptable and people need to be comfortable with new technologies.
Our vision of ALICE is to stimulate new and innovative socio-technical measures for the development of sustainable and stable communities in the subarctic climate. In this project, we focus on a groundbreaking new integrated concept instead of the traditional approach involving the three pillars of environmental, economic and social sustainability. We build on a custom triple thematic concept that covers the traditional view of sustainability, where we insert sustainable building for the attractive life and living in areas with cold climates. Durability and stability is reflected in the three themes of a good life, sustainable use of resources and the adaptive city. Research will be undertaken in close collaboration with stakeholders in communities with subarctic climate. In this project we cherish to work interdisciplinary.
The project brings together LTU researchers from Architecture, Construction Engineering, Timber Structures, Sanitary Engineering, Energy Engineering, Political Science and Industrial Production Environment. Currently is Political Science and Industrial Production Environment planning research and publication with preliminary headlines like "The paradox of growth" and "The resource curse in a local context", as we interact with other substances in the project.
