Crisis-driven innovation: From reactive measures to new sustainable tourism services in the wake of the pandemic
The Corona pandemic had severe consequences for the tourism and hospitality industry, but also brought with it an opportunity to change and test new ideas. New services, often digital, were rapidly developed as a response to changed customer behaviours, but the question is how lessons learned from this can be the basis of innovative, desired, and sustainable services? The project runs 2022-2024 and is financed by the R&D Fund of the Swedish Tourism & Hospitality Industry (BFUF).
Purpose
The overall aim of the project is to develop tools that can increase competence in innovation work in the tourism and hospitality industry by using lessons learned from measures taken during the pandemic. The goal is to contribute to practical knowledge of services (digital and others), sustainability analyses, and consumer behaviour in order to enable a sustainable restart, or fresh start, after the pandemic.
Data
The project includes researchers from marketing, information systems and environmental management. Data is collected via case studies of companies, workshops, and surveys with customers/visitors.
Today, there is a need for research that can benefit from the lessons learned during the pandemic in terms of innovative services and changing customer behaviours, and the results can be of interest to many different groups within, or connected to, the tourism and hospitality industry.
