Assessment of Musical Knowledge
An ongoing project examines the effects of the recent educational reform as expressed in Lgr 11 (Swedish curriculum) on music education in primary school, with a specific focus on assessment in grade six.
A first interview survey has been carried out which reveals a number of dilemmas faced by music teachers: The new requirements vs. the teachers' own pedagogical ideals; The syllabus as a teaching guide vs. a threatened professional autonomy; An increased focus on the display of acquired knowledge vs. a reduced focus on learning, processes, reflection and understanding; A holistic approach vs. a narrower view of musical knowledge in terms of skills and facts; Teaching for documentation vs. teaching for learning. A nationwide survey based on the interview results will be conducted in the spring and an action research-oriented sub-study is planned for the 2014-2015 academic year where teachers are expected to work with dilemmas discovered in the first two sub-studies.
In addition, Cecilia Ferm Thorgersen is investigating and communicating assessment of dance education in upper secondary school together with Ninnie Andersson, doctoral student in pedagogy at the department.
