Organ donation
Donation of one or more organs enables transplantation and prevents both suffering and premature death. A prerequisite for transplantation is that there are people who want to donate their organs and that the healthcare system is able to meet the public's willingness to donate.
Although the majority, about 80 percent, of the Swedish population is positive about donation, the majority of the deceased have no known expression of will. A registered willingness to donate among the public and a positive attitude towards donation among healthcare professionals is a prerequisite for enabling the donation and transplantation of more organs. Studies have shown that the issue of donation can be difficult to raise with relatives and there is a lack of studies on how this is done with empathy and respect, but with the aim of enabling donation. Therefore, deeper knowledge and understanding of how family members experience the conversation about donation is needed. In summary, this project is expected to generate knowledge about the circumstances that prevent or enable organ donation and also contribute to enabling more donations to be performed regionally and nationally. The purpose of the project is to investigate the circumstances that hinder or enable organ donation. This from the perspective of the public, intensive care staff and relatives.
