Securing the airway
Successful management to ensure a clear airway is essential for patient safety. When difficult/unclear airway occurs, the specialist nurse's ability to correctly assess and manage the situation is required.
Various factors can complicate or influence airway management. These may be contextual factors, such as the environment and/or an acute situation, or physiological factors such as pregnancy or obesity. These factors can increase risks during anesthesia, and knowledge of how to prevent and treat these risks is important to improve patient safety and provide quality care. Early detection of difficult airway can be challenging, but increased knowledge of key factors for successful airway management can provide a stronger basis for nursing interventions and optimize work practices to provide effective and safe nursing care. The overall aim of this project is to study factors that influence safe airway management, as well as strategies for successful airway management.
