Parents' experiences with support from BVC nurses
The project examines parents' experiences of parental support from BVC nurses during the child's first three years and parents' experiences of strategies to obtain a positive breastfeeding experience and sleep situation in the family.
Becoming a parent is considered one of life's biggest events and can be both amazing and challenging at the same time. Parents can experience it as wonderful and fulfilling, but also as challenging and stressful. A safe environment in early childhood promotes physical and mental health as well as cognitive functions and social development. Negative emotions during parenting can increase the risk of depressive symptoms and affect the attachment between parent and child.
Child health services aim to promote good health on equal terms for all children through health monitoring, screening, examinations, vaccinations and parental support. Having access to good parental support is important for families and this requires health professionals to know how to identify and meet the needs of families. However, there is limited research on families' needs for parental support and how these can be met in child health care.
With this research project we want to improve counseling and support for parents. The research project involves parents in order to develop a knowledge base where parents' experience-based knowledge can strengthen the scientific foundation on which parental support is based. The overall purpose of the research project is to study parents' experiences of parental support from BVC nurses during the child's first three years and parents' experiences of strategies to obtain a positive breastfeeding experience and sleep situation in the family.
