Reasons for seeking healthcare up to 5 years before dementia diagnosis
People with early-stage dementia problems may seek treatment for more non-specific, so-called pre-clinical symptoms, only to return later with memory problems and other more specific dementia symptoms.
Several studies emphasize that there is a lack of knowledge about early, pre-clinical symptoms of dementia, not least in primary care, which usually meets affected people first. Collected data on visits and reasons for seeking primary care up to five years before diagnosis are treated both via machine learning and as a comparative study with a control group.
The research is conducted within the framework of PRECISE, an interdisciplinary environment at Luleå University of Technology with a focus on precision health.
