Studies in the Silver-MONICA research cohort
Silver-MONICA studies factors in middle age and changes in these factors that may later affect physical and mental health in very old age. It also follows the development of dementia, depression, consumption of health and social care and mortality.
Approximately 500 people aged 80 and over who are registered in Västerbotten and Norrbotten are included in the cohort. All participants have previously participated in the MONICA study (on two occasions) on living habits, risk factors and health in middle age. One of the studies deals with self-rated health; changes over time and its association with health and well-being factors, as well as mortality.
The interdisciplinary research group is led from Umeå University, where most of the project members are based. Participants from Luleå University of Technology are Ariel Almevall and Karin Zingmark.
