Instructions for operation and maintenance of on-site soil-based wastewater treatment (2022-2023)

In this project we investigate to what extent instruction for operation and maintenance of on-site sand filters and infiltration fields are available and evaluate if there is a need for modification of the guidance for supervision of onsite systems, the systems’ instructions and / or design.

In the project, we analyse the current state through personal contacts and internet searches; collecting, compiling, summarising and comparing the instructions available from different suppliers. We also investigate how other countries with similar technical solutions manage these issues. Interviews will be done with suppliers, contractors, municipal officers, operators and others with practical experience in operation and maintenance of on-site facilities. Finally, we develop recommendations for minimum requirements for operation and maintenance instructions for on-site facilities describing the potential need for updating the guidance documents provided by the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management. The project’s results are summarised in a report (in Swedish language only).
